Artichoke Granny

About Me

Hi I'm Artichoke Granny Aka Barb Rennert, Granny to 12 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids. Famous for my artichoke nibbles I make every Christmas.

I love to work in my yard! We built our home 9 years ago so the yard was a blank canvas. I worked on a design for at least a month. It took my husband and I a couple of years to plant. The landscape is ever changing yearly, as some plants don't take and I see new ones I think will be juuuust greeeat!!! Looking forward to interacting with fellow gardeners all over the world.

On this site I'll be blogging about yard design, plants, gardens, garden pests (and not just husbands), water features, trees, and what makes gardens grow.

Ask me anything

New pics of my backyard.  The green beans are getting bigger.  Anyone with a good green bean fertilizer?  Someone told me the rabbits won’t eat my bean plants after the beans come onto the plant.  The fuzzy bush is a Amsonia Hubrichtii it gets clusters of sky blue flowers in early spring for a very short time, can reach 3’ tall and 3’ wide.  The white flowering bush is a Hydrangea.  I actually have three of them and they are doing great this year.  In the fall I think I will trim them down they will cover the window at the rate they are going.  I believe fall is a good time to trim them.  Anyone know for sure?

Zinnias and Marigolds are two days old since planting, they are a little droopy, hopefully they make it.  Does anyone have a home remedy fertilizer they can share for the marigolds and zinnias?  The green beans are bush beans and are a month old from planting; they seem to be doing good.  I had to fence them because of the rabbits. Someone told me rabbits only like beans when there is just the plant.  When the beans come they leave them alone.

Any comments or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.  We learn by doing and I’m ready for any new doing.
